Circus Harmony
Our Mission:
Circus Day Foundation/Circus Harmony

teaches the art of life through circus education. We work to build character and expand community for youth of all ages, cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Through the teaching and performance of circus arts, we help people defy gravity, soar with confidence, and leap over social barriers, all at the same time. We also help make circus an accessible and lively performing art form for the whole St. Louis metro area.

Circus Day Foundation/Circus Harmony is an organization focused on Social Circus programs. We use circus arts to inspire individuals and connect communities. We are the only organization in St. Louis active and dedicated to circus arts year 'round. Circus Day has received local and national recognition for its work using circus arts to build bridges between communities. Learning circus skills improves one’s strength, coordination and flexibility. Learning circus builds character in the individual participants as they develop life skills like goal setting, persistence and focus. Learning circus with others teaches trust, responsibility and teamwork. When the others are from different backgrounds, everyone’s sense of community is expanded.

Letter from the Artistic / Executive Director:

Jessica and Peekaboo
Artistic / Executive Director, Jessica Hentoff with the newest member of our circus family, Peekaboo.

Growth and change would best describe where the Circus Day Foundation is as we head into a New Year. I’m delighted to announce the opening of Circus Harmony Center, offering greatly expanded circus class opportunities at City Museum! We now have four performing youth circus troupes to entertain you! The collaborations with our incredible musical partners have resulted in the marvelous Circus Harmony: First Movement CD, and the magnificent show coming February 26th. In fact, the whole Harmony concept has become so important to us and is so synonymous with what we do: bringing together different people and cultures that we’re changing our name to CIRCUS HARMONY!

Where else will you find a young man from East St. Louis choreographing his own trapeze act and performing it to live Chinese Zheng music?

Come see us—the big show, and our weekly shows! Take a class! Play the CD! Keep supporting us and tell your friends we exist. Thanks for being part of this journey to use circus arts to create harmony in the world. We couldn’ accomplish all this without you.

Circusfully,
Jessica Hentoff

Ringling Bros. Preview Visits Circus Day

This November, clowns from Ringling Bros. Circus visited Circus Day Foundation, along with acrobatic dancers, a whipcracker and other performers.

The audience was comprised mostly of homeschoolers involved in circus arts. Claire the Clown (left) performed but has recently run away from the circus to work for everydaycircus, our sister company, as a storytelling clown.

    Kellin Quinn

Kellin Quinn Wins Juggling Competition at Union Station

Circus Harmony’s Kellin Quinn was one of three winners beating out several professional jugglers at the St. Louis Juggling Club’s annual competition at St. Louis’ Union Station, held in August, 2004.

Also a member of the St. Louis Arches, then 7-year-old Kellin, spent his $200 in prize money on expensive juggling knives previously forbidden by his mother.

Entrepreneurial Kellin is already a professional juggler himself, regularly performing for children’s birthday parties and at other special events.

    Youth Circus Showcase

Mark your calendars now for our 3rd Annual Youth Circus Showcase on July 16 at City Museum. Encore!

    The Acorn Doesn’t Fall Far...

It was nonstop thrills over our successful run with Circus Flora in June, alongside international circus stars like clown and aerialist, Giovanni Zoppe and the Flying Pages.

The Arches brought down the house, especially as they introduced their newest member, 4-year-old “Daring Donald”—whose father is “Dangerous Donald”—one of the original members of The St. Louis Arches.

Book Kennison, the Twisted Juggler—on Letterman!

Book Kennison, 14, a performer with our Patchwork Circus Troupe, got to show America his most unusual talents last month on the Late Show with David Letterman’s Stupid Human Tricks.

A contortionist as well as a talented juggler, Book juggled with his arms behind his back, wearing handcuffs.

“Have you ever been arrested?” asked Dave.

    “Not yet,” answered Book. book

After teasing about his unusual name and learning of his three younger sisters, Dave offered Book the chance to come live with him. When Book said the handcuffs were his father’s idea, Dave reiterated, “Maybe you should come live with me.”

See the whole hilarious event online by visiting this link and look for the “Dave TV” show highlights, “Juggling While Handcuffed”, Dec. 1, 2004.
