Flying at 80!
Elizabeth 'Bunny' Herring celebrates her 80th birthday performing as a circus acrobat
Herring, a St. Louis debutante, ran away at age 18 to become a show girl in the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus before returning to St. Louis and raising a family. After some refresher training with Jessica Hentoff, Herring performed on the aerial lyra for her birthday celebration last Saturday in the circus ring at City Museum. Herring is in amazing shape and can still do a side split and touch her nose to her knees. Herring has asked that birthday gifts be donations to two of her favorite nonprofit arts organizations — the Circus Day Foundation and the Prison Performing Arts group.
